An Introduction To My Band + Me.

My band, She Speaks, is the current musical adventure I find myself on. It started off over a year ago with my sister and myself looking for a few people who would take my songs out of my bedroom and onto the stage, and so it began. After having the lads out to the shed and nervously showing them the songs I had penned over the years, we started to mold what was later to become something spectacular. After a few changes in line up, some heart break, some heart melt...and a LOT of jammin! I finally found the bones of a good band.

The lyrics are penned by yours truly, and the melodies for those lyrics also. Some of which were conceived when I was just 15 or 16. I would sit at my Yamaha keyboard, bought for me by my dad, and bang down some chords while I sung the lyrics over them on repeat until I had something worth working on melody wise. Then when I thought id struck gold, id ring my friend Aine and sing it down the phone to her! At birthday parties, school occasions, and practically anywhere I was let! Id sing my songs for whoever would listen to me. I remember my music teacher at the time played piano for me, while I sung at a school concert. It was the best thing since sliced bread! Hearing someone put piano behind my songs! I have always loved piano.

But now I have a band, consisting of bass - Timothy Maybury, drums - Sarah Keogh AKA Skip, guitar (were working on it!) and vocals - myself, Rebecca Keogh. I bring the songs to practice, and sing them on repeat until a bass line falls into place and then follows drums. So far, I've given free rein to each guitarist who has played with us. Just giving them a guideline of what I want sound wise. We have been unlucky with our guitarists though. The first one left the band under unfortunate circumstances, but was his own decision in the end....I will probably get into that at a later stage for those of you who don't already know. Maybe... The second guy, Jason O'Driscol AKA Jayo, left to go to Australia with his long term girlfriend, much to my disappointment, he was a great addition to the group, but I wish him all the best with his new life, with his lady friend, and finally the third and current guitarist, was only ever a temporary solution, for the simple fact that he was only in Ireland for the summer and in September he will be going back to Edinburgh. But at the time, we needed someone, so he kindly stepped in. We are still currently auditioning guitarists.

We have played venues such as, Whelans Dublin, The Village Dublin, The Late Lounge Kill and the Phoenix Venue Kildare Town. At the moment we are taken it easy in regards to gigging until we find a guitarist. We have 2 or 3 more booked but that's it for the time being. So I'm going to use my time wisely and concentrate on writing some more, learning some covers for back up, and finding the right guitarist! Looking forward to continuing this adventure that is song writing.

Sounds like: Emotion.
